SALONA & TROGIR UNESCO HERITAGE TOUR
Salona and Trogir
Participants on this tour meet at the reception of the LE MERIDIEN LAV HOTEL at 08:20 h, board the marked
tour coach/coaches and depart at 08:30 to the UNESCO archaeological site of the Ancient SALONA. It is the
largest archaeological park in Croatia, whose size is attested by the monumental ramparts with towers and
gates, a forum with temples, an amphitheatre and cemeteries with Salonian martyrs (Manastirine, Kapljuč,
Marusinac). Salona was a town with over 60 000 inhabitants and, according to the legend, the birthplace
of Emperor Diocletian. In the first millennium BC, the Greeks set up an emporion (marketplace) there. After
the conquest by the Romans, Salona became the capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia. Monuments
you are about to see, tell the story of its importance.
After the visit to the archaeological park of Salona, the journey continues to Trogir, next UNESCO heritage
site. In the 3rd century BC, Tragurion was founded by Greek colonists from the island of Vis, and it developed
into a major port until the Roman period. The name comes from the Greek "tragos" (a male goat). The name
might also derive from Iliric word "Tregur" (Three Stones). Similarly, the name of the neighbouring island of
Bua comes from the Greek "voua" (herd of cattle). The sudden prosperity of Salona deprived Trogir of its
importance. During the migration of Croats, the citizens of the destroyed Salona escaped to Trogir. Initially,
the Roman Tragurium was one of the Dalmatian City-States. Ever since, Trogir has had it’s ups and downs,
flourishing into one of the most charming Mediterranean towns, attracting the attention of the thousands of
visitors every season. Return to the hotel is expected at 13:00 h.

GAME OF THRONES & ETHNO VILLAGE TOUR
Klis
Participants on this tour meet at the reception of the LE MERIDIEN LAV HOTEL at 08:20 h, board the
marked tour coach/coaches and depart at 08:30 to the legendary KLIS FORTRESS. The Fortress is also
known as one of the venues of the saga GAME OF THE THRONES, from the fourth episode, when Daeneris
conquers Meereen. Regardless if you are GOT fan on not, you shall be thrilled with this historic fortification.
The Klis Fortress is a medieval fortress situated above a village bearing the same name, near Split. From its
origin as a small stronghold built by the ancient Illyrian tribe Dalmatae, becoming a royal castle that was
the seat of many Croatian kings, to its final development as a large fortress during the Ottoman wars in
Europe, Klis Fortress has guarded the frontier, being lost and re-conquered several times throughout its
more than two thousand-year-long histories. Due to its location on a pass that separates the
mountains Mosor and Kozjak, the fortress served as a major source of defence in Dalmatia, especially
against the Ottomans.
After this, we continue to the ETHNO VILLAGE STELLA CROATICA with the typical Dalmatian hinterland
houses representing village life a few hundred years ago. In the village, you shall taste some of the local
products and have the chance to purchase those you like the best. All of the products are produced in the
traditional artisanal way, giving you the tastes and aromas of the past centuries. Return to the hotel is
expected at 13:00 h.

SPLIT SIGHTSEEING TOUR
Split
Participants on this tour meet at the reception of the LE MERIDIEN LAV HOTEL at 1:45 PM, bord the marked tour
coach/coaches and depart at 2:00 PM to the centre of the city of Split, next to the Diocletian’s palace, a
retirement home of the Roman emperor Diocletian. This Palace was the heart around which the city grew from
the 4th Century onwards. The Palace was built in a form of the rectangular Roman military camp, with austere
features for the soldiers and servants in the northern part, and lavish Imperial quarters in the south part of the
palace. As the centuries have passed, the Palace grew into a city, adding new lavish medieval and renaissance
buildings; private palaces of the noble families, old town hall, piazzas, etc. Substructures of the Palace are also
the unavoidable place of a visit, bearing in mind that some parts of the GOT saga were filmed there. This is not only
a historic site but also an exclusive events venue.
Many invaders brought their building styles and features, so during this walking tour across the city we shall go
across the periods of the Venetian influence, French influence as well as the Austrian influence.
Modern housing projects of the ’70s and ’80s featured in the so-called SPLIT 3, due to its human approach,
putting the person instead of building in the heart of interest of the designers, led to the exposition of these
designs in the New York MOMA Gallery this year, with the outstanding visit record. The expected return to the hotel
is at 5:00 PM.

KRKA NATIONAL PARK & ŠIBENIK
Krka and Šibenik
Krka National Park lies within Šibenik-Knin County and covers a total area of 109 km² of the loveliest sections of the Krka River and the lower course of the
Čikola River. The national park is a vast and primarily unaltered area of exceptional natural value, including one or more preserved or insignificantly altered
ecosystems. The purpose of the park is primarily to serve science, culture, education and recreation, while tourism activities have also been introduced for its
visitors. Including the submerged part of the river at the mouth, the Krka River is 72.5 km long, making it the 22nd longest river in Croatia. It springs in the foothills
of the Dinara mountain range, 2.5 km northeast of Knin. With its seven waterfalls and a total drop in altitude of 242 m, the Krka is a natural and karst phenomenon.
The travertine waterfalls of the Krka River are the fundamental phenomenon of this river.
This tour is scheduled for all the participants of the AEHT 2019, on Friday, November 15th 2019. Participants shall board
the tour coaches at the parking of the LE MERIDIEN LAV HOTEL at 07:45 h AM and the departure is for all of the buses
at 08:00 h AM. The ride to the KRKA NATIONAL PARK takes about 75 minutes. Upon arrival at the National Park, you
shall take the tour of the Park, starting with the exhibition of the old traditional arts and crafts at the Ethno exhibition.
After this, the tour takes you to the most beautiful waterfall on the entire flow of the Krka river - SKRADINSKI BUK.
This is the focal point of the visit to the National park. An interesting fact that many people do not expect is that the
first electrical hydro plant in entire Europe was installed here, on August 28th 1895; only 2 days after the first one
in the world (Niagara Falls). During the walk across the Park, you shall be able to see some of the parts of the first
plant, exposed to the visitors. After some time at leisure, meeting at the coaches is at 01:00 PM, followed by a 15
minutes ride to the restaurant where all the participants shall have the 3-course lunch (it is important that we receive
the potential allergies or special diet requirements before November 1st 2019.). After the lunch, a short visit of Šibenik,
old Croatian town dating back to 1066. Return per scenic seaside route to Split. Expected arrival to Split is at 5:30 PM.
TICKET TO THE NATIONAL PARK AND 3 COURSE LUNCH ARE INCLUDED. BEVERAGES ARE NOT INCLUDED.

Afternoon
